The SusHi Tech Tokyo Global Startup Program 2024, an annual flagship startup event hosted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, was held grandly from May 15 to 16. Among the selected startups, CancerFree Biotech Ltd., the only Taiwanese company in the competition, not only made it into the global top 20 but also received two Special Prizes awarded respectively by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Shimizu Corporation (SHIMIZU CORPORATION). This achievement highlights Taiwan's leading position in the global biotech field, truly making it the pride of Taiwan.
On July 6, the Okinawa Startup Eco System hosted the annual startup event KOZAROCKS 2024, featuring the KOZAROCKS PITCH AWARD competition. This event attracted nine startup companies from Japan and overseas. Taiwanese teams CancerFree Biotech and Turing Drive performed exceptionally well, with CancerFree Biotech winning the highest honor, the KOZAROCKS AWARD, and Turing Drive receiving the GxPartners Award.
As the largest startup event in the Kyushu region, RAMEN TECH is an upgraded version of the "ASCENSION" international startup exchange event, rebranded by Fukuoka City in 2020. This event gathered 16 startups from 8 countries and regions to compete for the ASIA NEXT UNICORN AWARD and brought together more than 20 domestic and international investment companies, accelerators, and government agencies to participate in the Asia Startup Ecosystem Summit and other activities. The ASIA NEXT UNICORN AWARD received applications from 84 companies. After fierce competition in the preliminary round, only 6 companies advanced to the finals. In the end, a jury composed of Japanese and international investors selected CancerFree Biotech, a Taiwanese biomedical startup, as the champion.
In Okinawa, a rapidly growing hub for startups in Asia, CancerFree Biotech has been selected as one of just four teams worldwide to join the OIST (Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University) Acceleration Program.
Recently, Taiwanese startup CancerFree Biotech (精拓生技) has once again won the prestigious Life Science Award and Audience Award at Asian Entrepreneurship Award (AEA), marking the fourth time this year that the company has been honored with an international award in Japan. After winning in competitions such as SusHi Tech, KOZAROCKS, and RAMEN TECH, CancerFree Biotech's cancer avatar technology, which assists cancer patients with identifying an optimal drug treatment plan, has gained significant international attention.
Dr. Zhang holds a Ph.D. in Physics, has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at a top university in Germany, and is currently an associate professor at Cheng Kung University. Because her mother-in-law has work experience in hospitals, she noticed that she was suspected of cancer, and was diagnosed with cerebral hemangiopericytoma. His professional background and family support have enabled him to face the challenges of his illness positively.
